The groundbreaking rock duo have announced they are splitting up after a 13 year run and will make no further new recordings or perform live.
Jack White and his ex-wife Meg White say there are a "myriad of reasons" for the break-up but the main cause is to "preserve what is beautiful and special about the band".
The Stripes have been reasonably quiet since 2007 when group was forced to cancel a string of tour dates due to Meg's anxiety issues.
